I am declaring this week the WEEK OF SMOOTHIES!
Explanation: Part of the requirements for our insurance plan is to have a yearly health check-up so Justin and I went for ours on Friday, while my blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose are all normal, talking about “healthy habits” with the doctor made me realize it’s time I get back into the swing of things with eating right and changing some habits. So today my Weight Watchers membership was reinstated and healthier foods were purchased for the week ahead. This time around I vow to try things to keep me from hitting a plateau and to keep researching what is actually going into my body on a regular basis. With that being said, I’m jump starting my journey with the WEEK OF SMOOTHIES!
I’ve always been a fan of the green (spinach) smoothies, but I knew my traditional (mango, peaches, banana, spinach) recipe was very basic and I could do a lot more with it. My research began on Pinterest, the keeper of all useful information. My first discovery was this little wonder called the Chia Seed. Apparently this little seed packs a ton of nutritional value all while holding a ton of water in each seed to keep you feeling fuller longer. My second discovery was that I had already pinned a million (or 12) healthy smoothie recipes, so I made my list and headed toward the grocery store. I purchased spinach, frozen fruit, bananas and the wondrous little chia seeds. My goal: make ready-made smoothie packs to keep in the freezer and try one with breakfast every morning. Here’s what I ended up with: 7 colorful bags waiting for their turn in the blender!
Each of these smoothies are ZERO weight watchers points and only 1 point when I add 1/2 a tablespoon of the chia seeds.
For lunch today I tried out one of the more yummy sounding smoothie recipes that I found and so far I’m a fan of both the smoothie and the chia seed! Here’s today’s lunch smoothie, which includes CHOCOLATE MILK!
- The Chocolate, Strawberry-Banana Smoothie – 5 Points
- 1 Banana
- 5 Frozen Strawberries
- 3/4 Cup Chocolate Milk
- 3 Ice Cubes
- 1/2 Tablespoon Chia Seeds
- Blend and ENJOY!
